Field of Dreams

That evening Sister Encarnación and Father Tomasino, grateful for Jeremy Creek's help, invited Jeremy to stay at the orphanage. The next day they offered Jeremy room and board in return for helping with the children. Jeremy accepted.

The three of them began the day with the task of feeding the children. As the day went on they spent time teaching the children to read and write, assisting with creative activities such as painting, drawing, and dancing, and taking breaks to prepare additional meals, and wash dishes and clothes. Later that evening they read the children stories.

When the day was over Jeremy sat outside, enjoying the cool evening breeze and the sunset. Sister Encarnación approached him and asked him if he was alright.

Jeremy replied, "Yes, I'm fine. Seeing the children today brought back memories of when I was a kid playing in the cornfields of
Kansas."

Jeremy continued, "But one day one of my friends was badly injured in an accident. And after a while I stopped going to the cornfield with my friends. I forgot how much fun I had, and how beautiful it is."

Sister Encarnación replied, "Someone once said that 'Life is full of beauty. Notice it. Notice the bumble bee, the small child, and the smiling faces. Smell the rain, and feel the wind. Live your life to the fullest potential, and fight for your dreams.'"

Jeremy said, "I've traveled thousands of miles and come back home again."

"You wish to stay, then?", Sister Encarnación asked.

Jeremy replied, "Yes, sister. Let's go home."
